Despite legal services being a material sector of the economy, there are very few listed law businesses at the moment. Here at Singer Capital Markets we think this sub-sector is poised to grow given its many attractions – for example, high value-added and often mission-critical services, niche offerings with limited price competition and the ability through new business models to gain an advantage from the use of external capital and a listing.

Today’s conference was London’s first ever investor gathering focused on the business of law in a listed context. We brought together most of the listed law-related companies and examined changing business models and investment opportunities.

This is a fast emerging niche area of the market and one we are enthusiastic about, being brokers to both Murgitroyd and Driver Group, and having enjoyed a stellar performance from Best Idea Burford Capital last year.

Speakers at our conference were:

◾Chris Bogart, CEO and Joint Founder, Burford Capital
◾Gordon Stark, Executive Director, Murgitroyd Group
◾Mark Wheeler, COO, Driver Group
◾Michael Ward, CEO, Gateley Holdings
◾Mark Wells, Managing Partner, Calunius Capital
